This is basically a vegetarian turkey sandwich, but we like the details of this specific combination so much that I decided it was worth writing down.
INGREDIENTS
Sandwich:
- 2 slices of sourdough bread
- 2-3 Tofurkey hickory smoked deli slices
- 1-2 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1-2 slices of red onion
- Tapatío hot sauce
Sauce:
- 1 oz mayonnaise
- 1 tsp McCormick salt-free garlic & herb seasoning
- 1/4 tsp McCormick cajun seasoning
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix all the sauce ingredients together thorougly in a ramekin or small bowl. Spread a layer of sauce on each slice of bread, then toast them lightly in the toaster oven. If you don’t have a toaster oven, you can toast the bread before spreading on the sauce, but it doesn’t come out quite the same.
Layer the other ingredients on one slice of the toasted bread. Add Tapatío to taste before putting the second piece of bread on top. Eat your sandwich while it’s still warm!
